Meet Deniz Akçalı

Deniz Akçalı brings two professional worlds together. A seasoned corporate leader with a long career in finance & banking and an experienced diving professional, she is now a PADI Course Director, training the next generation of PADI instructors.

After years of developing her diving career alongside her corporate one, Deniz has chosen to make the transition herself — leaving corporate life behind to focus on professional diving and instructor development.

She brings the same sense of responsibility, preparation and clear communication to her IDC programs, while keeping the experience personal and supportive. Deniz teaches in English and Turkish, welcoming instructor candidates from Turkey and abroad.

At Deepist Diving Center, she focuses on the development of Divemasters and instructor candidates through small-group training, personalized education, and long-term mentorship. Her goal is not simply to develop instructors who meet PADI standards, but to help create safe, confident, effective communicators who can, in turn, inspire their own students.

She is also particularly committed to encouraging greater visibility and representation of women in professional diving and leadership roles. Through her own career transition, she hopes to demonstrate that there is no particular age or stage of a career at which it is too late to build a new professional path.

Based in Istanbul and Kaş, Deniz Akçalı delivers Divemaster, Instructor Development Course (IDC), and professional development programs for candidates from Türkiye, Europe, and neighboring regions.

Dear Future Colleagues,

I'm Deniz Akçalı, and I hope to be your PADI Course Director!

After many years building careers in both banking and professional diving, I've chosen to dedicate myself fully to diving, teaching and developing the next generation of instructors.

I bring the discipline, responsibility and professional perspective of my previous career to the way I teach, but I believe becoming a good instructor requires something more: patience, confidence, sound judgement and genuine care for the people you teach.

I conduct my IDC programs in English and Turkish, welcoming candidates from Türkiye and around the world.

I look forward to meeting you — not simply as my students, but as my future colleagues.

Train in İstanbul & Kaş with Deepist

Your IDC takes place in İstanbul & Kaş, one of Turkey's leading diving destinations, with the facilities and day-to-day environment of Deepist Dive Center, a PADI 5 Star IDC Center, behind your training. With its own dive boat, confined-water training facilities and accommodation, Deepist brings the practical parts of your IDC together in one setting. More importantly, you'll be learning inside an active dive centre — giving you opportunities to observe the operations, organisation and student experience that form part of professional life beyond the course itself. Deepist also operates in Istanbul and Kaş, allowing preparation, mentoring and professional development to extend beyond your time on the IDC.
